Survival and Balance, continued

Smart girl. No one taught her the exact name of the crystal, Aunt Penny thinks. “How bad is she?” Penny asks.
“She stopped breathing and her heart stopped beating when she touched the crystal.” Penny’s heart sinks when she hears Sandy’s report, but then Sandy continues. “April’s been revived but she can’t seem to stay awake, and her arm glows.” Penny knits her brow in thought.
“Hmm . . . Deflection #3: The Holding Within. April’s holding inside of herself the Evil from the Seed of Death. It’s causing her illness,” Penny says.
“Look, my future self was talking to April’s Aunt Melissa earlier this evening. Maybe this is why they met. It’s possible they’ve already taken care of the problem,” Aunt Penny theorizes.
“Maybe you’re wrong. You’ve got to help me save April,” Sandy pleads.
Penny sees that Sandy is on the verge of breaking down and crying. This is so unlike the level headed child that she knows. Funny thing . . . the unconscious. No inhibitions here, Penny thinks. A tourist couple, enjoying the night air strolls by. Penny shifts slightly to hide their view of Sandy. She doesn’t want to draw attention to a teenager in pajamas on the dock.
Without warning Sandy’s body becomes semi-transparent. It flickers a couple of times and seems to be drawn into an invisible portal. Penny knows better, but instinctively grasps at the flickering Sandy. Her hands temporarily pass through Sandy’s semi-translucent body. She jerks them out fast before Sandy’s body can solidify. Penny’s hands and forearms tingled from the contact.
Back in the present, Sandy’s body, in its original sleeping position, briefly forms a translucent outline on the bed before disappearing. Sandy fully solidifies back on the docks. She’s terrified and throws herself into Aunt Penny’s arms. Penny comforts the girl, but she knows she must be quick about it.
“Look, Sandy. Your unconscious power is raw, untrained, and unfocused. You can’t really control it. You’re phasing back into your own time. Quickly, let go. Any part of me that touches you when you completely make the jump back will be lost to the present time frame.
