Survival and Balance, con't
“Went to bed,” Sandy speaks in monosyllables as her head slowly rolls around.
“No, before that.”
“April . . . In hospital.”
“April in the hospital!” This is a shock for Aunt Penny. Sandy is not responding well and this is serious. Penny abhors violence in any of its forms but she can’t see any other way to do this. The action that Penny is contemplating is dangerous also. Sandy’s unconsciousness raw power can lash back at Aunt Penny and easily bounce her off the hull of any one of the nearby yachts. Aunt Penny takes a deep breath and then slaps Sandy.
“Ow.” Sandy snaps out of her daze. Her feet steady under her and she holds a hand to her burning cheek. Sandy’s subconscious power doesn’t lash out too badly at Penny, although it stings a lot worse than the impact warranted. Aunt Penny holds her injured hand low, cradled in her good hand between her knees.
Wow, that’s serious power, is all Penny could think to herself. Sandy is looking around with wild eyes. She’s totally disoriented. She focuses her attention on her aunt.
“Am I dreaming?” Sandy asks.
“No, you’re really here.” Sandy notices her aunt’s pained condition. She rushes to her side and tries to gently look at her injured hand.
“I’m Ok. I’ll be OK in a minute. Boy, you pack a wallop,” Aunt Penny says as she cringes when Sandy touches her hand.
“I did that! I’m so sorry,” Sandy says.
“Don’t worry about it. You’ve come back only four days, in my timeframe, from your last lesson.”
“Same way you hurt my hand . . . Raw, unconscious power. Now listen to me Sandy. This power can be your greatest ally or destroy you. We’ll have to deal with that real soon. Right now I need to know more. You say, April’s in the hospital?”
“Yea. She touched a Seed of Death. The one generated when we saved the baby bird’s life.”
